What Factors Will Affect The Selection Of Gaskets

May 20, 2022

Part contact surface roughness. This greatly affects the sealing effect, especially when non-soft gaskets are used. This is because the roughness of the contact surface of the parts is one of the main reasons for leakage. The soft gasket has a lower requirement on the roughness of the contact surface of the parts, because it is easily deformed and can block the leakage channel formed by the contact between the asperities of the contact surface of the two parts, thereby ensuring an excellent sealing effect.

Component contact surface condition. The condition of the contact surface of the parts is different, and the gaskets that need to be used are also different. For example, low pressure, soft and thin gaskets should generally be used for the contact surfaces of lubricated parts; thick and soft gaskets should be used when the strength of the parts is met under high pressure operation conditions, and metal gaskets should not be used.

The contact surface of ferrous metal parts should use copper metal gaskets instead of aluminum metal gaskets to avoid electrical corrosion damage to ferrous metal parts.

The hardness of the contact surface of the part and the sealing layer is poor. The purpose of using the gasket is to elastically or plastically deform the gasket to fill the small unevenness of the contact surface of the parts and prevent the leakage of the flowing medium. Therefore, the hardness of the gasket should be lower than the hardness of the parts. The greater the difference between the two, the easier it is to complete the seal.
